Featuring Local Nonprofits

the pescadero bomberos

The Pescadero Bomberos are the primary beneficiary of Bajaja’s fundraising efforts.

As the only first response unit for the growing region — providing fire and medical services to the entire community of Pescadero and Cerritos — they need our generosity!

SUPPORT THE BOMBEROS →

Our main goal

… is to help the Bomberos build a much-needed Fire Station, which will also serve as a community and medical center. Your donations, whether big or small, make a significant impact.

And your contribution is 100% tax-deductible.

Why Support the Bomberos?

  • They provide vital assistance during emergencies

  • They do so with with seriously limited funding

  • They operate from their own homes and pay out of pocket to ensure our safety

Five Ways You Can Make a Difference

FROM ANYWHERE

  1. Direct Donations: We've teamed up with ShowUp to offer a simple way to contribute directly to the Bomberos. As part of our Buy A Block campaign, donations over $100 via ShowUp will be recognized with your family name on a beautiful Talavera tile at the new Fire Station once it's constructed with our collective help. Your tax-deductible donation goes a long way in supporting their mission.

  2. Auctions: Our online auction to benefit Los Bomberos is now available to check out. This online silent auction featuring signed goods, paintings, posters, and exclusive merch. Check back on November 24th to participate! **If you are interested in donating auction items, please click here for more info.

    ON-SITE ONLY

  3. Raffles: we’ll have raffles for concert tickets, hotel stays, vinyl clubs and more!

  4. Open Bar Tickets: When you opt for an Open Bar ticket at the door, know that a portion of the proceeds will directly benefit the Bomberos.

  5. Reusable Steel Cups: At the fest, head to the Bomberos table to snag a limited-edition Bajaja-branded reusable steel cup. Not only are they eco-friendly, but you can also fill them throughout the weekend and beyond!

The Bomberos will be present throughout the festival to speak with, get to know, and hear their story. It's a chance to truly understand the impact of your support.

Why Are The Bomberos Vital?

The Pescadero Bomberos are the sole first-response unit for the entire Pescadero and Cerritos community. They rely on community donations and grants to function and cover many of the expenses from their own pockets. Their aspirations include acquiring new vehicles and establishing a fire station, which will also double as a community and medical center.

Led by Chief Griselda Sotelo, the Bomberos Voluntarios de Pescadero are making history with Mexico's first female chief. Griselda, alongside her son Fernando, the Capitán, oversees a dedicated team of over 16 volunteer firefighters, all unpaid. This department operates solely through community contributions to ensure everyone's safety.

Last year, they responded to 1,000 calls, and this year, the numbers are expected to rise. Each call consumes approximately 4,000 MXN (over $200 USD) in gas and supplies. Over half of their budget comes from donations and fundraisers, with the rest being covered by their volunteers. While medical calls dominate, they respond to all emergencies, from fires to accidents, animal rescues, and more.

What Do The Bomberos Need?

  • Department Station: including generators, computers, staff uniforms, portable shade structure

  • Ambulance: beds, satellite phones, GPS, thermal camera, flashlights

  • Service Equipment: Water Truck, backhoe, pumper truck, radios, fire hose, rescue basket, volunteer phones

  • Medical Equipment: defibrillator, oximeter, glucometer, thermometers

What's Our Goal?

While there are many pressing needs, our primary focus is on building a brick-and-mortar Fire Station. This would provide a dedicated and permanent space for our first responders, eliminating the need to operate out of a home and have a state-of-the-art facility for this growing community.

Plans for the Department look like this:
